Facts About Feline Leukemia and FIV
Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodefeciency Virus (FIV) are both incurable viral deseases, and although related, are different viruses with different effects.
Cat-to-cat contact, usually through bites or mutual grooming, is the most common means of transmission of FeLV. FIV is primarily transitted through bites from one cat to another. Test your cats, and do not bring any cats into your home who have not been tested. NOTE: Test results may not show a positive result if the cat was recently infected. A negative test result is not a guarantee that the cat does not have the virus, but is good practice.
Keep cats indoors to prevent exposure to the virus.
